TUR Artist Residency in Riga
August – September 2025
Congratulations to Jan Dickey who will be TUR's artist in residence for August/September 2025!
For more information about Jan Dickey
TUR is delighted to welcome Brooklyn-based painter and curator Jan Dickey as their artist-in-residence in August and September 2025. In his work, he explores the natural tendencies of paint—its flow, layering, cracking, and peeling—using earth-based materials like egg, casein, oils, and animal glues. By sourcing and preparing his own pigments from materials such as cochineal, black walnut, and turmeric, he embraces unpredictability, allowing compositions to evolve spontaneously.
During his residency, Jan intends to draw inspiration from his Latvian heritage, particularly its deep connection to natural materials and traditional craft. His residency at TUR will serve as a bridge between his personal history and artistic practice, as he explores the intersections of Latvian textile traditions, natural dyeing techniques, and his own approach to painting.
Dickey holds an MFA from the University of Hawai’i at Mānoa and a BFA from the University of Delaware. He has participated in residencies across the U.S. and internationally, including the Sam and Adele Golden Foundation for the Arts and ARTnSHELTER in Tokyo. His work has been exhibited widely, with solo shows in the U.S. and Japan, and has been featured in publications such as Two Coats of Paint, ArteFuse, and Art Spiel.
This residency is supported by the Latvian State Culture Capital Foundation.
